One of my favourite tips to update a space dramatically yet affordable is by painting a wall, a room or even a furniture piece. It’s my first resort to wanting an instant refresher and being able to stay relevant with ongoing updates in homeware trends.
WGSN have recently researched top international painting companies colour forecasts for 2018. Here are my favourite hues from this report to look forward to this year to keep your home updated and on trend.
The first colour from the top 2018 hues is from Benjamin Moore’s Colour of the Year, Caliente AF-290, it’s strong, radiant and full of energy.
“Caliente is the signature colour of a modern architectural masterpiece; a lush carpet rolled out for a grand arrival; the assured backdrop for a book-lined library; a powerful first impression on a glossy front door. The eye can’t help but follow its bold strokes. Harness the vitality.”
—Ellen O’Neill, Benjamin Moore & Co
I’m not sure about you, but the next colour in all shapes and forms has been my obsession for the past year.
My next favourite colour of the year is by, Dunn-Edwards The Green Hour (DET544) it’s believed to have been inspired by turn-of-the-century Paris when 5 o’clock became known as “The Green Hour” due to the popularity of absinthe.
Sara McLean revealed in her research that green is trending in all colour values — cool greens, warm greens, blackened greens, complex greens, grey-greens and many others. And, more importantly, variations on this colour have been trending over recent time.
Another colour that I’m sure you’ve pretty much seen everywhere is from Behr called, In the Moment.
This colour is a combination of cool, tranquil, spruce blue hues inspired by nature and is a soothing, therapeutic combination of blue, grey and green. It is known that this hue evokes a sense of sanctuary and relaxation amid our busy, always-on lives. This colour has been in every homeware store across South Africa and has become homeware retailers first love in my opinion, it’s a safe subtle colour that brings an instant soothing feel which I’m sure every woman would want in a busy home. Because of its soft nature, it is easy to mix with bold or natural accents for a balanced space.
